leg of Bud Triple Crown produces big fish
By Guy Ellis, Staff Writer
MANISTEE - The weather held off until teams brought their fish to
the scales at the manistee Elks Club Sunday afternoon for the weigh-in of the third leg of
the Budweiser Triple Crown.
Then the skies opened and poured down on the participants, but it
was too late to have any effect on the outcome and the charter boat Falcon Eddy
already had the biggest fish on the tournament inthe box waiting to be weighed.
Thirty-five boats were entered and only three of those brought
limites of fish to the scale either day, but the fish that were caught were large, very
large. The average weight of the fish in the first eight places of the Big Fish Division
were all in the 20 pounds plus class.
The team from the charter boat Falcon Eddy was
the winner of the Overall Division and also the Large Fish Division. The team was led by Captain
Ed Falcon Taylor and crewed by Mark "King" Price and Kevin Hackert and
two Pennsylvanians on a charter, Jim Zimba and Chip Hanour.
Falcon Eddy's 34.6 pound king, caught Sunday,
put the team solidly in first place in both divisions for a payout of $2,000 and a total
score of 387.50 ahead of Mischief with an overall score of 353.35.
Falcon Eddy took seventh in the first leg of the
Budweiser Triple Crown held at Ludington on July 12 and 13.
Taylor said, "It should be all over but the
shouting. It's not, we have to go to Frankfort and you know how fishing can be." |
